Japan Railways Train and Subway Maps

Apparently, quite a few people are finding their way to this blog whilst searching for rail maps of Japan.  So, I thought I would post up a bunch of high-quality English/Romaji maps of train and subway lines in Japan.

If you’re coming to Japan for a visit though, don’t fret!  In Japan transport workers are incredibly helpful and friendly (basically the exact opposite of their Western counterparts), train stations are incredibly well signed, and despite the huge number of lines and stations things tend to be laid out quite intuitively.  Trust me, it’ll be a lot easier to use than you are probably imagining.

This first map I found on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism’s website, and I thought I would put it first to give you a nice zoomed-out view of the fastest infrastructure throughout the country.  Various cities and regions follow after that.
